Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments which re-volumise, lift and harmonise facial features, smoothing out the wrinkles and lines that can appear with ageing.

Mindfully placed, they are an effective way of replacing lost volume giving skin a plumper, more youthful look whilst improving the contour and shape of the face. Predominantly hyaluronic acid-based - the water-attracting molecule in the skin - dermal fillers can significantly improve hydration and skin radiance.

At Ardour, the goal is always natural-looking results and to honour your unique face, conservatively treating only areas where you'll most benefit (cheeks, lips, jawline, mouth, neck, décolletage) and in phases to subtly achieve your desired results.

TREATMENT INFORMATION

  • Your patient journey starts with a chat by phone – or email – to discuss your treatment objectives and the results you are looking to achieve.

We then arrange an in-depth consultation with Dr Paris in clinic, to assess your skin and decide the optimal treatment choices for you.

Virtual consultations are also possible, with the reassurance that we always then assess you in person before undertaking any treatment, to get a clear understanding of your unique skin and facial structure.

When creating your treatment plan, the goal is long-term, sustainable improvements for your skin and overall wellbeing, with continuous care throughout your time with us. The initial consultation helps us ascertain the best options for you, whether that's simply popping in for occasional medifacials or entrusting us with longer term facial rejuvenation.

You'll be able to ask any questions and, particularly if you are considering injectables for the first time, we'll make sure you are fully informed and comfortable with all the options. In short, you're in safe hands and we'll guide you through, led by how you're hoping to feel after treatment.

The range of aesthetic treatments can be overwhelming so we're here to advise you on the best path for you and there is never any pressure to book treatment.

[DON'T USE HERE? At Ardour, we take a 360-degree, personalised approach to help you look and feel your best. With decades of experience in medical aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology - including 3D skin analysis and medical-grade treatments - treatment is tailored to your specific needs, to ensure best possible results.]

  • Dermal filler treatment allows us to subtly replace volume loss, improve facial definition and boost skin hydration. Fillers are commonly used for lip augmentation; cheek, jawline or chin enhancement; treatment of the tear trough; and for non-surgical rhinoplasty. They are also effective at reducing general signs of ageing - softening deep furrows and lines & wrinkles, including marionette lines, lip lines and nose to mouth lines.

A key benefit of fillers is their immediate result and they may also, from newer formulations with collagen stimulating properties, offer other improvements eg to skin quality and reduced acne scarring.

Filler treatments become a particularly attractive option for women from 30s upwards, when diminished collagen & elastin stores start to show and faces also begin to lose their volume due to fat and bone density loss. Facial structure can become less of a downward-pointing triangle to more of a square, meaning women start to consider options to regain some definition. Lip filler is a hugely popular treatment for patients with naturally thinner lips, or with lips thinning due to the ageing process.

Filler treatment is also popular for men, though typically starting later as their thicker skin and slower collagen and elastin loss means fewer fine lines, instead tending towards more pronounced folds e.g. in the forehead. From 40s onwards men often choose filler treatment for the forehead and for cheek, chin and jaw line definition.

  • how do hyaluronic acid fillers work?
Dermal fillers are typically made from hyaluronic acid, a synthetic (but naturally occurring) sugar molecule in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a key structural component in our skin, playing a crucial role in maintaining hydration, elasticity and overall skin architecture. As a 'humectant', it binds water molecules to hydrate skin.

This type of filler contains molecules which bind together and hold their shape when injected into areas where you'd like to replace lost volume. We inject the filler into strategic places which have suffered volume loss (eg cheeks, lips or chin), and it subtly restores definition in that area.

As the body naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid, fillers are safely reabsorbed with no lasting effect. In the rare event of an undesired result or problem, they can be removed with hyaluronidase injection - an enzyme which disintegrates filler quickly and painlessly, allowing your skin to return skin to normal.

Collagen stimulating fillers work similarly to hyaluronic acid fillers but results are longer lasting due to their ability to trigger collagen production. These are notably popular for areas with thinning skin, such as the hands.

  • To reduce the risk of bruising, we advise you to avoid:

    • alcohol for 24 hours before

    • aspirin, ibuprofen, Omega-3 supplements & high dose vitamin C for 2 days before.

Although the risk of bruising is minimal, it can occur so we recommend you avoid treatment during important events and are able to leave time for results to settle.

After treatment, we advise you to:

    • not apply makeup for 6 hours

    • avoid flying for 48 hours

We will also book you in for a review at around 2 to 4 weeks post-treatment, to assess results and adjust / top-up if necessary.

  • Numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area beforehand to reduce any discomfort. Many dermal fillers also contain anaesthetic in their formulation to provide additional pain relief.

After filler treatment, you may experience some redness and mild tenderness which usually lasts for a couple of hours but may take a few days to subside.

As with any injectable, there is a small chance that bruising and/or swelling may occur (normally within 48 hours from treatment). We use a cannula to minimise this risk.

  • Typically you'll see results from one filler treatment, but a second may be needed, dependent on the filler and your particular needs.

We will always review you after treatment to assess results and decide whether further treatment is needed.

We take a mindful, strategic approach to treatment and will phase sessions as needed to safely and subtly achieve your desired result and to avoid an 'over filled' look.

  • Dependent on the filler, you would normally have 1 initial treatment and then a review after 2 to 4 weeks to assess results and to adjust / top up if needed.

If you require further treatment, this is done at the review to allow any initial swelling or bruising to subside.

Typically you would then have a further treatment at around 12 to 18 months, when we re-assess your face and discuss desired results at that time.

Alongside patient safety, our priority is to pace treatments so that they enhance your natural beauty, rather than rush a quick result. The benefit of fillers is that they allow us to do both: make a difference to your face quickly but subtly, with our considered approach.

frequently asked questions

  • Dermal fillers are an injectable facial rejuvenation treatment, administered into the skin to re-volumise, restructure and refresh the face, particularly in key areas where the ageing process has led to noticeable volume loss. These areas are usually the lips, cheeks, chin and jaw.

Filler treatment produces quick results, is temporary and involves minimal downtime which makes it enduringly popular, often combined with other treatments which focus more on skin quality and reducing the muscle activity which leads to line formation.

Fillers may also help boost skin health. Most are formulated with hyaluronic acid which visibly improves skin hydration, whilst others stimulate collagen production, meaning they give the treated area a more youthful appearance.

  • You may have anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal filler at the same appointment as long as they are to be used for different treatment areas. If they are to be used in the same treatment area, an additional appointment will be required.

  • It is usually possible to add more filler product at a later stage - in fact, phasing treatment in stages allows for the most natural rejuvenation for your face, respecting your facial anatomy and harmonising your features. This way, results are subtle yet effective and avoid the obviously treated look.

  • The body naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid so fillers are safely reabsorbed with no lasting effect. In the rare event of an issue or undesired result, filler can be removed with a hyaluronidase injection (the enzyme which disintegrates filler quickly and painlessly, allowing skin to return skin to normal).

  • We fully cleanse skin before any treatment so it is fine for you to wear makeup to the clinic.

After filler treatment, we recommend you avoid makeup for 6 hours, to reduce the risk of infection.
